Two weekends ago, I traveled to Washington, DC with hopes of maybe catching President Barack Obama at the Oval Office.

No dice.

Instead, I went to Madame Tussauds wax museum where not only did I bumped into President Obama, I said "Hi" to Beyoncé, chatted with Jennifer Lopez and hanged out with Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman.

Ha!

When HBO's critically-acclaimed drama The Wire took its bow two years ago, you could hear the collective sighs from TV watchers across the nation, including myself. I have never been addicted to one television drama in my life until The Wire. One of the many actors I enjoyed watching on the series was Nigeria native Gbenga Akinnagbe, who played the fictional character Chris Partlow, Marlo Stanfield's drug partner and ruthless assassin.

Since the series ended, Gbenga (pronounced "banga") has cut his hair, appeared on a few television shows and, most recently, he starred in the remake of The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 with Denzel Washington and John Travolta. Also, Hip-Hop Fact: Gbenga is the cousin of D.C. rapper Wale.

Gbebga also is dabbling in writing.

He penned a travelogue article of his personal adventure in Thorong Phedi, Nepal for the New York Times newspaper. The actor fought back pain during his 17,769 feet trek up into the Himalayan Mountains. He also discovered another world where people have never seen a black person before. After enduring dehydration and altitude sickness, he finally reached the summit. Afterward, Gbenga felt rejuvenated and inspired. It's a fascinating read.

It's about men, women and young adults being able to go to a doctor when they are sick and not have to worry about getting slapped with a hefty medical bill.

For Grandmaster Roc Raida, an influential DJ with the turntablist group the X-Ecutioners (aka the X-Men). The legendary DJ passed away Sept. 19 from complications related to a mixed martial-arts accident.

A New York native, Roc Raida (real name Anthony Williams) was an infamous figure on the DJ battle scene in the early '80s along with fellow X-Men brethren Rob Swift, Mister Sinister and Total Eclipse. Arguably, the greatest trick DJ in hip-hop history, Roc won the DMC World DJ Championship in 1995.

In addition, he released seven solo albums along with several group LPs with the X-Ecutioners. Before Roc's untimely death, he had been Busta Rhymes' live DJ.

"I never met a more humble man in the industry," eulogizes Busta on his Twitter page. "So unbelievably talented and most importantly such beautiful spirit. I love you my brother. I will never let your name die DJ Roc Raida! We love you, we miss you and we'll never stop reppin' you!"

Anthony "DJ Roc Raida" Williams is survived by his loving wife Tyeasha Williams, three beautiful daughters (Asia, Nyra and Tia), one son (Earl Tyric Smiley), his mother (Brenda Williams-Bolling), step-father (Clarence Bolling), and several aunts, cousins and dear friends.

A memorial service/funeral for Roc Raida will be held in New York on Sept. 24:
